Thermal pool at Hotel Thermal

An open-air pool on the terrace of Hotel Thermal above the centre of Karlovy Vary, a local legend since the 1970s. Next to the swimming pool is a separate thermal pool filled with hot-spring water heated to up to 38 °C, so you can swim all year – it's best in winter, when steam rises from the water and there's snow all around. Open daily from morning to late evening, also to people not staying at the hotel; check the current times on the hotel's website.

Paddling the Ohře by canoe or raftWater fun13 km

Paddling the Ohře by canoe or raft

The Ohře between Sokolov, Loket and Karlovy Vary is one of the country's favourite paddling rivers – calm, navigable all summer and winding through a deep valley below Loket Castle and past the Svatošské skály rocks. The stretch from Loket to Karlovy Vary is about 15 km and takes 4–6 hours with breaks, so families with children manage it too. Several rentals in Sokolov, Královské Poříčí and Loket hire out canoes, rafts and paddleboards and drive you and the boats to the start and back from the finish.
