Ježíškova cesta – the Christ Child's Trail in Boží Dar

A fun trail from Boží Dar, the little town with the Christ Child's post office, through the Ore Mountains countryside past thirteen little huts with tasks and games. Choose the full loop (12.9 km) or the Little Trail (5.6 km) on firm paths, which works with a pushchair too. Buy the task booklet at the information centre – children who fill it in get the Christ Child's stamp and a small reward. In winter you can do it on cross-country skis.

Ghost Trail at the Goethe Lookout

A two-kilometre loop through the woods around the Goethe Lookout above Karlovy Vary, with twenty stops. At each one a forest ghost based on Czech and German legends – drawn by children from a local school – comes with a short fairy tale with a moral. The walk takes about an hour and is free all year, and children who solve the worksheet get a reward at the café by the tower. The tower offers a fine view of the town.

Boheminium miniature park

In a woodland park above Mariánské Lázně stand dozens of 1:25 models of Czech castles, chateaux and other landmarks – even the entire village green of Holašovice. Children love spotting buildings they know and walking across the whole country in one afternoon.

Svatý Linhart rope centre

A rope centre in the spa forests above Karlovy Vary, close to Doubí. Seven courses with ninety obstacles among the trees – from a playground for the smallest and a children's course from age 5 to high courses and zip lines for adults. Open May to October, sturdy sports shoes required; a game reserve and the ruins of St Leonard's church are right next door.

Trinity rope centre in Cheb

A rope centre in the leisure grounds below Cheb Castle. The children's course with safety nets suits kids from 3, older ones have a medium course and big rope obstacles, and the brave can try the giant swing and a free fall. Open April to October – easy to combine with a walk around Cheb.

Kletterwald Schöneck (Saxony)

A climbing forest among huge spruces in Schöneck, Saxony, just past Klingenthal. Six courses with obstacles up to ten metres above the ground and a continuous belay system, so no one can unclip by mistake. Children from 5 climb with an adult; the season runs from April into autumn, and there is archery too.

A trampoline centre on Hornická street in Sokolov – angled trampolines, a battle beam, a tumbling track, free jumping, a foam pit and trampoline basketball. Children and adults can let off steam here whatever the weather.

Fantazie play centre in Sokolov

An entertainment and learning centre for children on Lipová street in Sokolov with attractions indoors and out – slides, trampolines, climbing frames, a marble run and Lego, and a bobsled run outside. Parents can relax in the Italian restaurant with its pastry shop or in the salt cave. Bring anti-slip socks for playing.

Hopa Hopa – children's centre in Karlovy Vary

An indoor fun world with a café in Stará Role, Karlovy Vary, for children aged 1 to 13. A bobsled run, a spider net, a giant slide, electric cars, game consoles and obstacle courses – and parents can join in. Open daily, holidays included.

Topgun Laser Game in Sokolov

Laser tag in the H Centrum in Sokolov, the closest to us. An arena full of obstacles wrapped in fog from several machines, with team games in 15-minute rounds for up to eleven players. A laser hit doesn't hurt, so children from 5 can play; book your slot in advance.

Laser Game Karlovy Vary

Laser tag right next to Stará Role station in Karlovy Vary. Glowing obstacles in near-total darkness, fog and vests with several sensors; a round lasts 15 minutes plus five minutes of briefing. Children from 5 can play, and there's a bar to sit at afterwards.

Fantasy Lasergame Karlovy Vary

The largest laser tag arena in West Bohemia, in Rybáře off Sokolovská street – for up to twenty players at once. Besides regular games there is a laser tag club with training, tournaments and a league, plus motion arcade machines. Good for bigger groups, parties and company events; open Tuesday to Sunday.
